In 2012, Anathoth started a partnership with an organization called Lighthouse Learning Agricultural Network for Development (LAND) in Jeremie, Haiti,–helping them develop a project similar to Anathoth, in which Haitians can learn how to live sustainably and peacefully in rural communities so that they can migrate out of the severely over-populated capital, Port-au-Prince. This spring, our director, Chas Edens, travelled to Haiti to survey the site and offer some initial consultation.
In the future, Anathoth hopes to offer trips to Jeremie, Haiti on which people from the United States can serve and learn more about how US agricultural policies and lifestyle choices affect the livelihood of people living in many countries in the global South. Alternative to a traditional mission trip, which often focuses on development and evangelism, Anathoth’s faith-based opportunities, would primarily serve to give people from America a new perspective on the mission and work of Anathoth, which models a holistic and peaceful way of living with all creatures.
